Hello! Thanks for visiting my page first and foremost!
teacher & caretaker
I'm Sadie and I am a "Gifted Adult" (please click and read if you're unfamiliar with the term) who has lived in Minneapolis for about fifteen years. I am currently a full-time Teacher working with children with unique Special Needs and I absolutely love my job. In addition to my creative endeavors, I work part-time as an in-home Personal Care Assistant and Direct Care Staff in group homes. I have been working with adults and children with Special Needs since 2006, and those I've worked with have given me knowledge about life and being a decent human that I don't think could be replicated anywhere else.
While attaining a Bachelor's in English from the University of Minnesota, I changed my major a few times, traveled some, and made dozens of friends. Although my education is something I wouldn't trade for anything, it was crazy expensive and struggling to pay for it has been and is extremely challenging.
art & creative projects
I have been creating things for as long as I can remember, and am interested in and curious about all of the natural world and all the creatures that exist and have existed within it. I'm hugely aware of my environmental impact as a human and I work hard to offset this both with my daily life and with my art.
Most of my work is comprised of materials found in alleys, city streets, garage/estate sales, thrift stores, and dumpsters. Finding and rescuing items that would otherwise go to waste or end up in a landfill is a big part of my process and is extremely important to me.
Insects, bones, and fossils are other things I regularly incorporate into my work and just collect in general. I am endlessly fascinated by the beautiful intricacies of plant and animal bodies and the relationships they have with one another and the planet. I regularly pick up small animals who have been hit by cars or have met other untimely deaths, and clean their bones which I make into very unique and intricate art pieces.
I adore hiking, camping, and any activity that gets me outside and gives me opportunities to explore. I listen to and enjoy music from nearly every genre and am always on the hunt for new stuff.
